Target Group: Elementary school students of 7~12 year olds.

LEEP-X R&W is a specialized program aimed at ensuring students possess reading and writing skills in accordance with the ELA Common Core State Standards. These high-quality academic standards, hosted by the Council of Chief State Officers (CCSSO) and the National Governors Association for Best Practices (NGA Center), were created to guarantee students graduating from secondary school possess the skill sets necessary to succeed in college and their careers.

Reading material selection is based off of Lexile Common Core Band Level Text Difficulty Ranges, with a focus on both literary and informational text. This text split is crucial as it creates a foundation for critical thinking, a skill that reaches far beyond the classroom. Reading and writing skills learned at the beginning of the program will allow for in depth literary analysis later on, again, creating a foundation on which students can employ critical thinking skills.

• Literary texts will include fiction, poetry, comics, and other reading materials.

• Informational texts will include essays, biographies, expository texts, and other reading materials.

Reflecting LEEP’s mission statement, this program is intended to create a love for learning English that goes far beyond the conventions of the English Language; through various types of literature, this program prompts students to explore English Language Arts at a native level while also exposing them to US culture, so that students may go on to study at an international level.
